Welcome to my website

This site will bring you news and views from me and the campaign to retake Ludlow Constituency from the Conservatives. New features will be added all the time so please feel free to come back and see how things are developing. I am looking forward to hearing your comments on my new website.

The Conservatives took this seat from the Liberal Democrats in 2005. It will only take a 2.2% swing from the Conservatives to the Liberal Democrats for us to retake this constituency. With your help I intend to see that we do!

I thank them all. This is a fitting end to a good Council. Special thanks go to Graham Biggs, James Caird, Bill Jones and Jake Berriman who made a great team.

30 MPH SUCCESS FOR THREE VILLAGES
Wednesday, 08 April 2009
30 MPH SUCCESS FOR THREE VILLAGES . Councillors and residents in the Chirbury, Snailbeach and Stiperstones areas are celebrating the success of a long campaign to obtain 30mph speed limits through the villages. Heather Kidd, District Councillor for Chirbury said “When we first started campaigning for a 30mph limit almost 10 years ago we were told that traffic was travelling too fast through the village for such a limit! We had to make do with 40 despite having a primary school and a significant number of elderly residents.” County Councillor Peter Phillips added “At long last the County has come round to our way of thinking and all three villages will see the new limit introduced very soon. “Although this is a great step forward, such limits will need enforcing. Regrettably, as we recently found in a speed survey in nearby Worthen and Marton a minority of drivers still exceed the limit. So our next step will be to talk with the local police about adequate enforcement.”

Playground All Messed Up!
Wednesday, 08 April 2009
Local Campaigner Vanessa Voysey recently took her young son to the park at the Crown Meadow near St Leonard’s School. Whilst she was there she noticed that there was a large number of bins for dog owners to put their dog mess in placed around the field and the children’s play area. Therefore Vanessa was disgusted to see the amount of dog mess that was littered around the fence to the children’s play area. Vanessa said “There are at least six bins for dog mess, yet dog owners were letting their animals foul near the children’s play area. Not only is it unsightly but it puts children’s health at risk.” Vanessa would like to see greater measures taken to catch and prosecute the offenders along with a facility to provide mess bags for dog owners in case they do genuinely forget to bring one. Vanessa finished by saying “I don’t want this to be seen as an attack on all dog owners, all the people I saw at the park were looking after their animals appropriately, it is just a minority spoiling it for the rest. I would also like to applaud the Council for their installation of the bins, it has helped the situation but I feel we can still do better.”

Tory Buses Mischief
Wednesday, 08 April 2009
What passion was stirred when the agenda reached Ludlow’s buses at the Ludlow & Ludlow Rural committee (Advertiser Mar 26th). Residents of Old St , mainly from the Fees, had come in support of the new service up the bank of Old St. They said they had been asking for ages, and only when Cllr Vivienne Parry pressed the County did a bus service arrive. Why did Martin Taylor Smith then report to the papers that “some services had changed and this has not gone down well” and that they “claimed there was high demand , this has not proved to be the case”! Was Martin in the same meeting? Was he really listening to the ladies of Old St? Of course others spoke out for a service to fit the needs of Parys Rd and Tollgate Rd. Tempers rose a little. A sensible suggestion was made by a resident of Parys Rd that the officers should think again about the needs of all areas, while the current service continues. The whole meeting agreed, not just Mr Taylor Smith. The needs of the Sheet were raised by Mr Taylor Smith. More than 2 years ago Susan McCormack & Vivienne Parry did a house to house survey of the Sheet and Rocks Green areas. The wish for a bus service, extending every hour or so from the town routes, was overwhelming. County Councillor John Everall & County officers promised to include the request in the review. They failed to do so. The meeting asked that they include them in the new review. I also understand Mr Taylor Smith is also telling residents that the current service will end in 50 days. This is also incorrect as a phone call to Phil Crossland the County Officer responsible will confirm. What a shame that political point scoring should get in the way of the truth.
